It’s that time of year again and the holidays are in full swing. Choirs are singing Jingle Bells and Silent Night, lights twinkle as the sun goes down, and children are smiling as they dream of Santa and his sleigh. The mailbox is beginning to fill with cards from loved ones near and far wishing us joy and peace during the holiday season. Children make paper snowflakes in their classrooms and bring them home to decorate their frosted windowpanes. Cookies are baking in the oven and the sweet smells of cinnamon and clove fill the air. Then there are the shoppers bustling off to the store in search of the perfect gift. There are so many dazzling items that it is sometimes hard to know where to begin. But perhaps this year, instead of filling stockings with trinkets and wrapping presents with shiny bows, we could consider giving a special kind of gift this year- a gift you cannot buy in any store.
Share your spirit this holiday season and you will find that this gift of yourself is far more precious than any other. Sharing your spirit is a gift that comes from within and symbolizes the true meaning of this time of year
There are many ways to share you spirit with others and every individual has his or her own special way of sharing. The following are some suggestions on how to share your unique spirit with others this holiday season:
Share your traditions. Teach your children and grandchildren that special recipe that has been passed down through the family tree. Gather together and share the things that matter most to you- your faith, your beliefs, and your values.
Share your time. Volunteer in the community and think about donating those things that many are without, often those things that we take for granted.
Share your stories. Sending holiday cards are a great way to catch up on the happenings in the lives of our friends and family.
Share your home. Invite your friends and neighbors for a cup of hot apple cider.
Share your gratitude. Give thanks to those that make your life easier- the postal workers, pharmacists, hospital staff, policemen, restaurant staff, and others.
Share your spirit this holiday season and delight in doing so. As you share your spirit, may others do the same. Happy holidays!
